Weird cosmetic ingredients. Dragon’s blood, snake venom, snail slime?!

Do you ever read the ingredient list on your beauty products?

I didn’t use to pay attention to the cosmetic ingredients but now I automatically check the INCI list to see, for example, whether argan oil on the label isn’t just a marketing gimmick. Because I always read the components, I came up with the idea for today’s post. While analyzing the formulas, I came across really weird products. Interestingly, some of them are extremely popular and added to many cosmetics, face-care products in particular. Read on to see the roundup of substances that the cosmetic market is flooded by these days. To me, they are very… weird.

WEIRD COSMETIC INGREDIENTS

1. DRAGON’S BLOOD

Dragons don’t exist but the dragon’s blood does… This scary-sounding substance is common in antiaging products for its antioxidant properties. Stil, it doesn’t merely fight free radicals; it also evens out the skin tone by eliminating dark spots. Dragon’s blood-rich products have a strong repairing effect so they make a perfect pick for aging skin. But what is this substance actually? This red blood-like juice is extracted from the exotic tree found in South America. It has an antibacterial, antifungal and astringent effect so it works well for problematic, acne, spot-prone skin.

2. SNAIL SLIME

Snail slime shouldn’t be so surprising because it’s already quite popular in face-care products. There are snail farms made for extracting the precious slime for beauty purposes. It was first used in the 90s when its hydrating and deeply-repairing effect was discovered. This is another antioxidant which improves the skin’s “quality” and stimulates the cell renewal. It also prevents inflammation working well for sensitive skin. Obviously products with snail slime should be picked if we want to keep the skin young-looking.

3. MOONSTONE

You may be taken aback by this one. Moonstone is one of the most popular and weirdest cosmetic ingredients. I had no idea it had some skin benefits because it made me think of jewelry only. What properties does it display? This powerful mineral soothes irritations, revitalizes the skin and intensively repairs it. Reach for it if your skin is dull, looks tired and lacks radiance.

4. SNAKE VENOM

As far as snake venom goes, it’s ideal for all women who desire to make their skin plump, firm and radiant again. Moisturizers, serums and masks rich in snake venom are popular antiaging products. The venom-based formulations prevent wrinkles and add plumpness – the effect is compared to botox. I wouldn’t try such products because venom has an effect on the facial muscles. It tightens them and brings elasticity so expression lines and unsightly furrows are gradually vanishing.

5. BIRD’S NEST

Did you know your skin-care products may contain bird’s nest?! It’s popular in Asia as a local delicacy. Still, it’s been discovered that bird’s nest makes an amazing cosmetic ingredient because it’s rich in nutrients that improve the skin’s elasticity, abound in antioxidants and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. Bird’s nest is a really popular substance in antiaging products ramping up their price (which is usually high).
