You often ask me what I do to keep my skin so smooth, silky and fresh. Let me answer this question today. I’ve learned to layer skin-care products like Korean women do. See what it means, how to start and what benefits you can count on.
What is layering in skin care?
This Korean-inspired skin-care method tells you to apply products following the right direction. Asian women have known this trick for ages and now it’s taking other world corners by storm. The idea of applying many different products may seem pointless or even harmful but let me explain the details.
How do you layer skin-care products?
Firstly, you start with cleansing, then you reach out for a skin toner, and move on to lightweight, fluid products that are absorbed fast. Finally, you use products that stay on the skin’s surface forming a protective shield.
The Korean skin-care brands even create ranges of multiple products and tell you to apply them respecting the correct order. Of course you can choose the cosmetics on your own and use them the right way. I do that. I’ve customized my kit of skin-care products observing my skin’s reactions. It took me some time to analyze the ingredient lists – remember that many drugstore products contain synthetics, colorants and preservatives that make the skin worse.
The layering technique should be based on simple ingredients. As a beginner you may feel it takes lots of time. Don’t worry: once you get the hang of it and create your skin-care schedule, the effects will encourage you to follow the Korean method.
If you feel a product takes too long to penetrate the skin, spray some flower water on the face and massage the product into damp skin before applying next cosmetics. Pricey products or devices are needless.
My morning skin-care routine the Korean way
Vitamin C and sunscreen is my favorite morning duo for happy skin. Cleansing and tonifying are obligatory. In the morning you can use a flower water suited to your skin instead of a cleanser. After washing, apply a lightweight vitamin C face serum and follow with SPF-rich moisturizer.
My nighttime skin-care routine the Korean way
I start with cleansing the face, neck and chest thoroughly, and then use a toner or my fave floral water. I reach out for a physical or enzyme exfoliant two or three times a week. If you use rinse-out masks, use them after cleansing. There are some cream-like masks you can leave for the night instead of a night cream.
Layering skin-care products is the most welcome when we do fruit acid therapy or retinol treatment because this is when the skin needs special care, protection and hydrating products. Remember that exfoliation done on a regular basis is essential to remove dead cells and boast flawless skin.
Once you learn good habits, this method will no longer be challenging. Share your results, leave a comment!
