How to Brush Hair Effortlessly? See My Tried & Trusted Tricks

If your hair is like mine – long and frizzy – you must be facing the same problem named brushing. Whenever I reach out for a brush, I feel like I begin a fight. The fight for smooth, well-combed hair and zero pulled-out or broken hairs. To win the fight we need to be prepared. We need the proper tools and technique. How to banish knots and tangles? You need to know the most effective ways for brushing hair painlessly. I share my top tried and trusted tips below.

MY TIPS FOR EASIER HAIR BRUSHING

Briefly on accessories, products and techniques for easier brushing!

1. A good accessory is the base for brushing without pulled-out hairs.

People are divided into those who pay attention to brushing accessories and those who get a random brush or comb. I surely belong to the first group and believe that a good brush or comb is halfway to success. If your hair is fine, it’s best to get a Tangle Teezer which gently detangles without tugging. For thick or curly hair, pick a wooden wide-tooth brush which doesn’t pull hair out and handles the most frizzy hair.

2. Never brush dry hair. Use natural hair oil.

Sometimes, simple solutions turn out to be the best. If a brush/comb gets stuck in your strands and you struggle to take it out, make use of a hair oil. Natural, cold-pressed, unrefined oils give the ultimate smoothness, as well as nourish the hair and lock in water. I love almond oil, which is lightweight and non-overburdening, but also adore argan oil, aka the top-rated beauty oil. Rub a few drops between the palms and scrunch up the hair – the brush glides smoothly not causing any damage.

3. Technique of brushing matters so learn to do it right.

It’s important that you learn to brush the hair properly. The technique is one of the key elements because even the best brush can’t handle knots if you don’t know how to use it. The must-follow rule says: brush the hair gradually. Dividing the hair into smaller sections and combing them gradually is the best way. I always tie half of my hair up and brush the lower sections, moving up gradually.

4. Healthy, hydrated, nourished hair is easier to brush.

This seems to be obvious but I need to mention that, just in case. Brushing healthy, strong, hydrated hair is easy. Hair-care conditioners, masks and oils matter as much as your diet. Vitamins, minerals and fatty acids essential to hair can be delivered through conditioning products as well as thanks to a varied diet. My hair got stronger, longer and easier to comb after I started drinking herbal teas regularly. I recommend this, really.

5. Hair conditioner is the best detangler.

I almost forgot! It’s because I usually use a hair oil instead of a conditioner. Still, if you aren’t a fan of hair oil treatments, get a good leave-in conditioner which doesn’t weigh hair down. This product has been created to form a super-thin layer on the hair surface, making hair smoother and easier to brush. Actually the main task of a conditioner is making combing easy and preventing the frizz. If you want revitalizing and repairing effect, go for masks which work more intensively.
